How to respond to difficulties? (resilience or antifragility)

May 11, 2025

Often when we face challenges in life, we tolerate and endure the difficulties, but with a persistent desire “I will hold on until things go back to the way they were“…

It is natural for us to want to return to life as we knew it, but so often life is changed and cannot go back to how it was.

We are called to grow, not to remain the same. Throughout life, it is not important to remain frozen in one ideal form that we imagined, but grow from natural and courageous way.

More important than creating resilience – the ability to return to what we were – is to develop first antifragility, the ability to become stronger than we were.

Let's think about some challenge then. that we are facing: a difficulty at work, a conflict with a family member, a hurt with a friend, an illness…

  • How can I grow from this?
  • If there was something good that could come out of this, what would it be?
  • How would I have to transform and change myself to be able to leave here better?
  • What opportunity for liberation might be hidden within this suffering?

No difficulty, humiliation or obstacle is a definitive and destructive fact about who we are. All the stuff of life – friendships and heartbreaks, challenges and projects – has an undeniable and permanent possibility: we can grow, we can improve.

Every event brings with it a wonderful opportunity: we can emerge from everything better, stronger, more generous.

It's up to us to start on this path.
